Niccku talks to Inked & Hitched about Galaxy Tattoo, his family, and how tattoos became his career.
Hey there! Tell us more about where you come from.
I grew up in Singapore and have been living in Chinatown since I was a baby.
How did you meet your wife?
I met her in Singapore while she’s here for holiday. She had actually come here to run away from her ex boyfriend hahahaa…
Lol that’s now something we hear everyday 😀 How does it feel to be an inked parent?
I’m proud being an inked daddy. My daughter likes it too.
Do you get stared at by people on the street?
Yes I used to always get that in the beginning but not very much anymore.
That’s great. Let’s talk about Galaxy Tattoo and what inspired you to become an artist.
I opened Galaxy Tattoo in Parklane Shopping Mall and it was there for 4-5 years before I opened Galaxy Tattoo 2 in Chinatown, in an 100-year-old building which belongs to my Granny. It is also where I use to live before closing Galaxy Tattoo at Parklane.
I start getting tattoos at the age of 14-15. At the time there were not many studios in Singapore so choice was very limited. I went to Peninsula Plaza where the local gangsters went, as I couldn’t afford the price of Johnny 2 Thumbs (one of the pioneer tattoo studios in Singapore). Soon after getting my 1st tattoo, I started to draw & was getting more into it. I didn’t really expect it to become my career actually hahaaa…
What do you like about tattoos? How do they reflect your personality?
Can’t tell you why I like tattoos… just love it man!! Hate the pain though…
It doesn’t really reflect my personality as it’s more of something personal thing to me.
What advice would you give for getting a first tattoo?
You should really get some research done online or from professional before deciding on or getting your 1st tattoo – unless you just want something that’s cheap & ugly… then never mind what I just said.
Hehe. What about advice for tattooed parents who are dealing with prejudice?
Get Over or Get Used to it hahahaa…
Good motto. How can our readers reach out to you if they’d like to get inked?
E-mail me at email@example.com or come by the studio whenever you like!
Where would you go out to with your family on the weekend?
Places where all the kids can play or gather.
What is the most interesting part of you and your wife’s lives?
We both have different cultures but we both are into each other, and it just works.
The simplest things are always the best
