I caught up with our new vendor-Slovakian photographer, Katarína as she talked about shooting and her experiences.

Tell us more about you :)

My name is Katarína Haršányová, I was born in Bratislava and I lived there till i was 12 years old. After that, I moved with my family to a village near Bratislava called Nový Život. Currently, I’m back in Bratislava.

Hm. I always loved taking pictures! I guess the first moment I decided to start portrait photography was when I read a romance novel about photographer, who took portrait pictures that captured the character of her subjects. It was then that I decided to be a photographer like her. As director Jean Luc-Godard said: “when you photograph a face, you photograph the soul behind it.”

Inspiring! What has been your most memorable experience as a photographer?

I had my first shooting for TWDT magazine and the managing director sent me to take some pictures from a small plane. What was funny was that she only told me about it just 20 minutes before!

Whoa… sounds exciting and scary at the same time :)

Tell us more about your ink. Where did you get it done and what inspired it?

I got most of my tattoos done at Rooster Tattoo, a studio in Bratislava. There were inspired by my life.. My feelings, my family, my personality..all of them are represented by my ink.

Do you shoot a lot of tattooed people? Is it any different from shooting people without tattoos?

Not as many as I would like to! I’m still at phase in my career, where I don’t have much control over what I want to shoot and what I don’t. And if is there a difference? Maybe just a bit, cause when I shoot people with tattoos, I try to capture the ink in the picture. I always try to capture their soul, and I guess the ink is somewhat a part of their soul too :)

Well said. Do you have any advice for aspiring photographers out there?

Don’t be too proud. Listen to advice from more experienced photographers, because they are always out to help you. You should also try to learn from others mistakes.
