As far cultural diversity goes, it is always refreshing to meet someone who has travelled across continents to settle down, adapting to a different lifestyle while still retaining a semblance of their heritage. We spoke to Jasmine about working in Slovakia, being inked as Janka shot her in AZ Wedding Dresses.

Hi Jasmine! So tell us, where are you from? Hey guys, well I’m 28 yrs old. I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur and currently residing in Bratislava, Slovakia.

That’s quite a jump. Why Slovakia? I moved to Slovakia because I wanted to try something new, start a new life and found out that this place is awesome! I’m an English Teacher and well l, lets just say I got really lucky. I applied, was called up for an interview which took place on Skype, and next thing I know, I got the job even though I didn’t speak a word of Slovak!

That’s crazy! Do you get stereotyped because of your tattoos, and has it affected work? Well yeah, some people still do stereotype, especially older generations or lets just say narrow-minded people. My tattoos don’t really affect my job. My boss is a hell of an awesome woman and she accepts the way I am. As with the parents of the kids I teach too. They do ask a lot about my tattoos but what’s more important to me is that they know I do my job professionally and we respect each other.

How different do you think it would be if you had the same job back home? Well I have not tried working in Malaysia nor other parts of asia with the amount of tatts I have right now, but I guess, it should be a little bit harder. Perhaps if you ar willing to cover your ink up while at work, it shouldn’t be a problem. But then, why conform to society, right?

Exactly. Do you think cultural differences cause people to react differently back home? I was back home for a while last year, I guess the younger generation looks at you and thinks you’re cool and the older generation started at you like you are evil and makes you look like a freak. I guess some are indifferent and some are open, but stereotyping does exist, no matter where you are in the world.

How do you handle negative reactions from others, when it comes to your ink? I just don’t give a single fuck about it?

That’s what we like to hear.
